Azure Blob Archive is a storage tier in Azure Blob Storage that is optimized for storing data that is rarely accessed and is intended for long-term retention. The Archive tier offers the lowest storage cost among Azure storage tiers but comes with higher data retrieval latency, making it suitable for infrequently accessed data like backups, older media files, or compliance data.
Pricing for Azure Blob Archive
Pricing per GB: As of the latest data, the cost for Azure Blob Archive storage is approximately ₹0.10 to ₹0.15 per GB per month.
Price for 1 TB per Month:
Since 1 TB = 1024 GB,
Approximate cost for 1 TB per month = 1024 GB * ₹0.10 to ₹0.15 = ₹102.4 to ₹153.6 per month.
Limitations of Azure Blob Archive
High Data Retrieval Latency: The Archive tier has a significant latency for data retrieval, typically in the range of hours. This makes it unsuitable for data that needs to be accessed frequently or quickly.
Minimum Storage Duration: There is a minimum storage duration of 180 days for data in the Archive tier. If data is deleted or moved to a different tier before 180 days, early deletion charges apply.
Limited API Support: Some operations are limited or not supported on blobs stored in the Archive tier. Data in the Archive tier must be rehydrated (moved to a Hot or Cool tier) before it can be accessed.
Costs for Data Rehydration: Rehydration (moving data out of the Archive tier) incurs additional costs and can take several hours to complete, depending on the amount of data.
Data Redundancy: Archive storage supports only a subset of redundancy options (Locally Redundant Storage - LRS, Geo-Redundant Storage - GRS, and Read-Access Geo-Redundant Storage - RA-GRS), which might not meet all redundancy requirements.
